Freelance writer Jaine Austen is not your typical Los Angelino. She's not rich, she's not thin, and she's definitely not starstruck. She is a sarcastic, sometime-sleuth who's never met a carb she didn't like...or a mystery she couldn't solve...If clothes make the man, then what do Jaine's elastic-waist pants and T-shirts make her? A fashion nightmare, according to her neighbour, Lance. She doesn't expect Lance - who works in the designer shoe department at Nieman Marcus - to understand...which is how she ends up visiting his favourite boutique, Passions. While the couture is definitely not for Jaine, the staff's gossip is. Tiny orange-haired clerk Becky starts complaining about her co-worker Giselle - a.k.a. "Frenc! hie" - a brittle blonde who, when she's not making fun of customers behind their backs, adds extra-marital notches to her Chanel belt. Though Jaine doesn't land a new look, she does land a new job when Passions' owner gives her a chance to write their new magazine ads. But when Jaine arrives the next morning to pitch her ideas, she finds Frenchie pitched over, stabbed in the neck by one of her own stilettos. Now all Jaine has to do is figure out who hated Frenchie the most, in a case of death by designer knock-off...The metrics in this report cover three year trends in the industry, broken out on a state-by-state basis. In Down at the Double Helix Shoe Store, Mr. Wolff takes us into the realm of his perceptions where we cannot help but glean insights on ourselves and our circumstances. His work is incisive, thought provoking, often humorous, and, on occasion, profanely blunt. The sum of these poems is a new voice that allows us to see our understanding of what comprises happiness from a welcome and empowering viewpoint. Mr. WolffĂ‚´s debut effort is an illuminating no-holds-barred "must read."

From the Press Release

Emotional illness is endemic in our modern times. More than ever, the technologies we have created for greater connectivity have, ironically, also resulted in increased feelings of isolation and loneliness. Combine this with ingrained unwholesome emotional behavior, which has be! en handed down through untold generations, and you begin to grasp the complexity of our common plight. Fred Wolff shares his journey towards emotional healing in a new collection of poems entitled Down at the Double Helix Shoe Store.

Emotional healing can start by reorienting the focus of our perceptions, which in turn can enable us to transcend conventional awareness or consensus reality. Transcending our day-to-day awareness can reveal previously veiled viewpoints through which the process of emotional healing can begin. Happiness lies within; it is a function of our inner landscape. This inner landscape is ours to design and to create. When the creation of this landscape is done with an increased degree of awareness, a more satisfactory result can be achieved. Thus, each of us has the right to and the inherent potential for peace and happiness, for emotional well-being.

Wolff, who through long and arduous struggle has come far in this arena, shares with u! s his quest through his art. He serves us poems rife with inte! llectual play. Through his perceptions he displays common subjects from an uncommon and illuminating point of view, and he does so with clarity. Each poem provides thought-provoking insights. Here is one unique poetry collection.
